Description
How many people are you cooking for on a Tuesday night?
Air fryer capacity is the whole decision and almost nobody thinks about it until the basket is on the counter. Chefman is direct about where this one lands: the listing says the two quart size suits healthy meals for one to two people. That is one chicken breast and a handful of potatoes, or a portion of frozen fries, or tomorrow’s leftovers brought back to life. It is not dinner for four, and no amount of shaking will make it dinner for four.
The second half of the same decision is the counter. This unit measures 10 inches deep by 10 inches wide by 8.3 inches high and weighs 5.9 pounds. Ten inches square is genuinely small, roughly the footprint of a dinner plate, and 8.3 inches of height clears the underside of a standard wall cabinet with room to spare. Chefman calls the shape a narrow design intended to keep the countertop footprint down, and the square basket is the reason: a square basket uses more of the same floor area than a round one does.
At 5.9 pounds it is also light enough to genuinely put away, which very few air fryers are. If your kitchen operates on the principle that appliances live in a cupboard between uses, that number matters as much as the capacity.
The two specifications that settle it: 2 quarts and 900 watts
Two quarts is the constraint, and it works in your favor in one specific way. A smaller cavity comes up to temperature faster and needs less air moved to keep it there, which is part of why Chefman states the unit cooks up to three times faster than a conventional oven. Read that as a manufacturer comparison against a full sized oven, which has a far larger volume to heat, rather than a claim about other air fryers.
Nine hundred watts on a 120 volt supply is modest for this class, which is a consequence of the small cavity rather than a compromise. It also means this is one of the few countertop cooking appliances you can run alongside a kettle without troubling the breaker. The maximum temperature is 400 degrees Fahrenheit, which covers everything air frying is normally asked to do, and the recommended uses on the listing are roasting, baking, cooking and reheating.
Touch controls and the shake reminder
The interface is a capacitive touch screen for time and temperature rather than mechanical dials, so there is nothing to twist and nothing to click. The one feature that changes results rather than convenience is the shake reminder: an audible alarm halfway through the cycle telling you to shake the basket. Air frying works by moving hot air around food, and food sitting in a single layer that never moves browns unevenly on the underside. A machine that reminds you is a machine that produces more consistent results from the same recipe, because the variable it removes is the one people forget.
Living with a small basket
Cleaning is where small air fryers either succeed or become the appliance nobody uses. Chefman lists both the nonstick basket and the rack as dishwasher safe, which is the answer you want, and the nonstick coating handles the rest. The usual caution applies: aerosol cooking sprays are hard on nonstick surfaces, and metal tongs will mark them.
Safety hardware is listed clearly. Automatic shutoff turns the fryer off when the cycle finishes or when the basket is removed, so lifting the basket to check on food does not leave an element running into open air. Chefman notes the unit is cETL approved and carries a one year assurance from the company.
Two fields on the listing do not sit comfortably together and are worth flagging rather than repeating. The material is given as aluminum and plastic, and a separate field lists the inner material as plastic, on an appliance rated to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. The nonstick coated basket is the part that meets the food and the heat, and the plastic in question is the housing, but the specification table as written could easily be misread. The model name field also says simply 2 Quart Air Fryer while the model number is RJ38-2T-BLACK, and one rating field on the listing shows a flat 5 while the review summary shows 4.5 stars.
Noise is the other thing small air fryers are rarely honest about, and this listing publishes no figure for it. Every basket fryer is a fan in a box, and a 900 watt unit moving air through a two quart cavity is audible across a small kitchen for the length of the cycle. It is a shorter cycle than an oven, so the total noise exposure is lower, but if the kitchen opens onto a living room the fan will be part of the evening. There is also the practical matter of where the hot exhaust goes: air fryers vent at the back, so leave a few inches of clearance behind the unit rather than pushing it against a wall or a backsplash.
The review base itself is unusually large: more than 26,000 ratings at 4.5 stars, with the listing recording a rank of 10th in air fryers and 273rd across kitchen and dining. It has been available since February 2024. For a category with hundreds of entries, that is a high volume seller rather than an obscure one.
What would push you to something bigger
If you cook for three or more, this is the wrong size and the fix is a second basket rather than a bigger single one. The Ninja DZ201 dual zone runs two independent drawers so a protein and a side finish together, and the Instant air fryer is a single larger basket for the same money bracket. For a family sized jump, the Kalorik 26 quart Flex Trio is an oven that splits into two air fryers.
If air frying is only one of several jobs, a countertop oven does more at the cost of more counter. The Breville BOV650XL takes a 12 inch pizza and bakes properly, which a two quart basket never will. Compare sizes across the air fryer category and the toaster oven category before deciding which shape of appliance you want. The Cosori CAF LI211 sits between those two positions.
Who it fits and who should skip it
Buy it if you cook for one or two, if counter space is the binding constraint, or if you want an appliance light enough to actually store away. The shake reminder and the dishwasher safe basket are the two features that make a small fryer stay in use rather than gathering dust.
Skip it if you are feeding a family, if you want to bake as well as crisp, or if you need to cook a protein and a side at the same time. Two quarts is a firm ceiling, not a starting point.
