This policy explains what information CyberLyber collects when you visit cyberlyber.com, why it is collected, how long it is kept, and how you can ask for it to be removed. It applies to this website only. It does not apply to Amazon, to a manufacturer site, or to any other site you reach by following a link from here, because those services are run by other companies under their own policies.
CyberLyber is a publishing site. We write up televisions, streaming players, antennas and kitchen appliances using manufacturer specifications and retailer listing data. We do not sell anything, we do not take payments, and you do not need an account to read anything here.
The short version
If you only read the site, we hold a server log entry and a small amount of anonymous usage data about your visit. If you send us a message through the contact form, we hold what you typed into that form. We do not sell personal data, we do not run an advertising network, and we do not operate a mailing list. Everything below is the detail behind those three sentences.
Information you choose to give us
The only place on this site where you can hand us information deliberately is the form on the contact page. That form runs on Contact Form 7, and submissions are saved into this website’s own database by a companion plugin as well as being sent on to the site address by email. The stored record contains the name, email address and message text you typed, plus the date and time of submission.
We use that information for one purpose, which is to read and answer your message. A correction to a specification, a copyright question, a broken link report and a privacy request all arrive through the same form. We do not add contact form addresses to any mailing list, and we do not pass them to anyone for marketing.
Please do not send sensitive information through the form. It is an ordinary website contact form, not a secure channel, and it is not the right place for financial details, identity documents or health information. Nothing we do here requires any of those.
Information collected automatically
Like almost every website, this one sits behind a web server that keeps access logs. A log line typically records the IP address a request came from, the date and time, the page or file requested, the response code, the referring page if your browser sent one, and the browser user agent string. Those logs exist so that we can diagnose errors, see when a page is failing to load, and identify abusive traffic such as scraping and repeated login attempts.
We also run a first party analytics tool of our own on the site. It records page views, referrers, an approximate location derived from the IP address at the country or region level, device and browser type, and which outbound links were clicked. It uses two small identifiers stored in your browser so that a series of page views in one visit can be counted as one visit rather than several. Those identifiers are described in the Cookie Policy. The analytics data is aggregated for reporting, and it is not used to build a profile of you as a named individual.
Cookies and similar storage
The site sets a small number of cookies, and third parties involved in delivering the site or in handling outbound clicks may set their own. The most consequential one is the referral cookie that Amazon sets on its own domain after you follow a shopping link from here. It is not a CyberLyber cookie and we cannot read it. Because cookies deserve a fuller explanation than a single paragraph, they have their own page. Please read the Cookie Policy for the list and for how to control them in your browser.
Third parties involved
A working website is never a single company. The organizations below are involved in delivering this site, or in what happens after you leave it.
- Our hosting provider. The site runs on a server we rent. The provider can technically reach the server and its stored data, including contact form records, in the ordinary course of running the infrastructure.
- Cloudflare. Traffic to cyberlyber.com passes through Cloudflare, which provides caching, encryption in transit and protection against automated attacks. Cloudflare therefore handles your IP address and request headers before a request reaches our server, and it may set its own security cookies.
- Our analytics service. The usage data described above is sent to an analytics service that we run ourselves rather than to a third party advertising platform.
- Amazon. When you follow a shopping link from a write up such as the one covering the LG UR9000 series 4K television, you leave this site and arrive on Amazon. From that point Amazon’s own privacy notice governs what happens, including the referral cookie that lets a qualifying purchase be attributed to us. Our relationship with Amazon is set out on the Affiliate Disclosure page.
- Email delivery. Contact form notifications reach us by email, which means the message passes through mail infrastructure on the way.
What we do not do
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We do not run a newsletter, so nothing you send us turns into a subscription. We do not take payments, hold card numbers or process orders, because nothing on this site is for sale. Reader accounts are not required to read anything. We do not run third party advertising networks or retargeting pixels on these pages.
The site software includes WooCommerce, which is why cart and checkout pages exist in the background. They are a by-product of the platform we publish on. No goods or services are sold through them and no payment method is connected to them.
How long information is kept
The periods below are targets we work to rather than guarantees, because logs and backups do not always expire on a neat schedule.
- Contact form submissions: kept while the conversation is open and reviewed periodically after that, with a target of clearing records older than about twelve months unless there is a reason to keep one, such as an unresolved copyright or legal matter.
- Server access logs: rotated and overwritten on a rolling basis, typically within a few weeks.
- Analytics records: retained in aggregated form for trend reporting.
- Database backups: kept on a rotating schedule, which means a deleted record can survive inside a backup image for a period after deletion, until that backup is itself replaced.
Your rights over your information
Depending on where you live, data protection law may give you the right to ask what personal information an organization holds about you, to receive a copy of it, to have inaccurate information corrected, to have information deleted, to object to certain processing, and to complain to a supervisory authority in your country. We aim to honor requests of this kind wherever you are writing from, because the amount of data involved here is small and the fair answer does not change with geography.
To make a request, send it through the contact form and say plainly what you want, for example that you would like your contact form submissions deleted. If the request concerns a message you sent us, please write from the same email address you used, or give us enough detail to find the record. We may need to ask a follow up question to be sure we are acting on the right record, and we will not ask you for identity documents in order to do it.
Where a request concerns data held by another company, such as a referral cookie on Amazon or a security cookie set by Cloudflare, we will say so, because we have no ability to reach into their systems on your behalf.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection, administrative access is restricted, and the platform and its plugins are kept updated. No website can promise that a breach is impossible, and we will not pretend otherwise. Holding very little data in the first place is the strongest protection available to a site like this one, and that is the approach taken here.
Children
This site is written for adults making household purchasing decisions and it is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from a child. If you believe a child has sent us information through the contact form, tell us and we will remove the record.
Links to other sites
Write ups across the site, from the QLED television pages to the air fryer pages, link outward to retailers and manufacturers. Once you follow one of those links you are on a site with its own privacy practices, and we have no control over what it collects or how long it keeps it. It is worth reading the policy of any site where you are about to enter personal or payment details.
Changes to this policy
We update this page when the site changes, for example if a plugin that touches data is added or removed. The version you are reading is the one in force. There is no public archive of previous versions, so if a specific point matters to you it is worth saving a copy at the time.
